Many people that I talked about in my blog posts, and to whom I linked, have left comments on these blog posts. Now, what I would like to check is to what degree people use services like Talk Digger to find out who’s talking about them, what they’re saying and help them make contact to talk more and/or start a new relationship.

So, what I am going to do is write a list of the names of people I read who are not subscribed to my web feed (or that I think are not). And the intention of this blog post is to ping specific people by using links on my blog.

So, if you are one of these people … it would be nice to leave a short comment on this blog post telling me that you found it via the link I’ve made to your blog letting me know what you used to find it (it’s not obligatory that this be Talk Digger ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

So there is the list:

Danah Boyd, Robert Scoble, Darren Rowse, Steve Rubel, Andy Wibbels, Toby, Scott Ginsberg, Paul Graham, Seth Godin, Jeff Cornwall, David H. Beisel, Amber Mac, Anil Dash, Daniel Lemire, Jack Vinson, Lilia Efimova, David Sifry, Matthew Hurst, John Battelle, Kevin Burton, John Tropea, David Weinberger, Michael Arrington

I have no idea what the results of this experiment will be , but I think that they could be interesting and maybe even surprising.

  1. OK, I will go first. I saw you in my Google Blog Search ego feed. I’m human. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I also saw you in my Google Blog Search.

Pingback and trackback have been disabled on my blog for a long time. Too much spam.

  3. hmmm .. do you think trackbacks are dead, for most people .. or that something better, easier and simpler is needed ?

  4. Hi,

Thanks guys for replying to that blog post. It is the result I was expecting. However it is possible that others came but doesn’t had the time to leave a comment, so it is greatly unscientific; but it is great that two of you find that post using such a feature (linkback)!

Jon: I think so in a way. The problem is that trackback is a geek thing considering that I would not try to explain what it is to my mum. Pingbacks are a good improvement to the idea. However it is not well supported everywhere… when supported. The problem with the linkback feature of search engines is that it is not 100% perfect. The premises are: (1) search engines index the entire Web’s pages and (2) they index all the links from each Web page to each Web page. Unfortunately it is not the case, and it is the reason why it is not working at 100%.

Nothing is perfect in this imperfect World ๐Ÿ˜‰
